Rich and I took an opportunity to move to Fort Worth, Tx to save some money and help his grandma out. Up until early this morning, I couldn't find anything wrong with living out here. But, at 5 am, we woke up to what sounded to me as a siren from an old war movie warning everyone that they were about to be bombed. Turns out, it was a tornado warning siren.Now, I'm from California, and my only experience with a tornado is from watching the Wizard of Oz. So of course, I'm the only one freaked out while Richard acts like it's no big deal. He was just annoyed that he had to get out of bed. So we went out to the living room and turned on the news. They said that we were under a tornado warning, which means that there hasn't been a tornado yet, but the conditions are those that would form one. So, we sat there and listened to the pounding rain, high winds, and the scariest lightning and thunder I've ever experienced and just waited. Luckily the storm passed quickly and nothing happened.

...I'm definitely not a country girl.

Last Sunday was our first anniversary! We can't believe how fast it went! Although there were some crazy moments, this year has been amazing. Bring on year #2!

Introducing Sadie Campbell

We got our first pet! We're apparently "nesting" according to some friends. We went to the pet store to see if Richard would be allergic to ferrets (because he seems to be allergic to every other animal) and when he realized that he wasn't, he immediately fell in love with one. I was a little worried about getting a ferret. Being from California, where ferrets are illegal, I had heard many horror stories and reasons as to why they're illegal. But after holding her for just a few minutes, I fell in love! She is so sweet and will fall asleep on my lap or in my arms. She's a lot like a kitten...she gets really hyper and playful and will chase us around the house. She is the most entertaining thing...Richard and I can watch her for hours! She likes to steal things though. She'll take anything that will fit in her mouth and carry it or drag it to her hiding spot (under the couch). We'll see her run back and forth from the bedroom to the couch and find a bunch of our stuff stashed away! We love our little girl!

Mission Call!

My little brother, Taylor, got his mission call today.....he's going to SOUTH AFRICA! He will be serving in the South Africa, Johannesburg mission. We are so excited for him! It's english speaking and he reports to the South Africa MTC August 6th! You're going to be a great missionary Tay!

My sister-in-law, Jackie, is an amazing singer/songwriter/guitar player. A couple of nights ago, she was invited to open for Kalai (if you've never heard of him, google him...he was on Jimmy Kimmel Live...and he's amazing.) The show was so fun, and I have to admit, I felt pretty cool walking in with one of the artists, walking straight past the long line to get in, and getting front row vip seating :)

This is a video of one of Jackie's cover songs, it's Richard's favorite so I had to record it for him.

And in case you were wondering, this is Kalai...

Not only was he an amazing performer, but he was hilarious! It was like being at a comedy show and a concert at the same time!

Murder Mystery

To celebrate Halloween, we went to a murder mystery dinner and game. It was supposed to take place in the 1950's and our characters and costumes were assigned. I was Dierdre C. Deucer ("the seducer") and Richard was Del Toydes ("deltoids"). It was a lot of fun!

Richard's grandpa passed away last week so we unexpectedly had to fly out to Texas for the weekend. Although the reason for the trip was not the best, we had a really good time.

When we were standing in line for security at the airport, I saw my uncle who is a pilot for American Airlines. I called him over and asked him what flight he was flying that day. Turns out, by some random chance, he was our pilot! He told us that we needed to pop our head into the cockpit and say hi when we got on board. But when we got there, a man that worked for the airlines was in our way. So I made the comment to Richard that we would have to say hi on the way out. Well, one of the flight attendants overheard me and I guess was expecting us to board. She immediately welcomed us on, but told us she was sorry that we were traveling under these circumstances (for the funeral) and told us that the pilot had saved a spot for one of our carry on bags right up front with the employee's bags. Ha...nice. She then asked us where we would be sitting and then said that she would make sure to come see us and help us during the flight. We thought that was nice of her but thought nothing more of it. Then during the flight, every flight attendant that passed us stopped by, wondering if we were doing okay and to ask us if they could get us anything. The airlines no longer give out free snacks so everyone had to buy them. The man next to us bought a sandwich for $6...clearly a rip off. But we were getting hungry so I asked how much the chips would cost. She said, "for you, free!" Everyone was looking at us wondering who we were and why we were so special. We felt pretty cool haha. After the plane landed, we waited for everyone else to get off the plane so we could go say hi to my uncle. He told us that he asked the flight attendants to give us the celebrity treatment...I think they did a good job! Then he let us sit up in the captains chair and check out the cockpit. It was really cool being able to sit up in the pilot's chairs. There were a lot of buttons and switches up there...it was a little overwhelming. But Richard loved the opportunity to see it all.
We got to Texas a few days before the funeral, so we had to find things to do. The adults wanted us out of the house so we decided to go to Six Flags over Texas. The only problem was that it was a record high temperature that day...107 with probably 100% humidity! Not the best weather to be outside all day...but we had a good time.
The funeral was really amazing. Richard's grandpa was a retired colonel in the US Air Force so he had a military funeral. The soldiers carried his flag covered coffin and then folded the flag and presented it to Richard's grandma. Then, they did a rifle salute, firing 7 shots, and then presenting the shells of the bullets to Richard's grandma. They also had a bag piper which was really cool. It was a great way to honor him and his life.

For the past 3 months, we've been living in San Jose, CA where Richard has been working hard selling alarm systems. It was so exciting to move here since it's where I grew up, and the company put us in an amazing apartment, rent free! I'm working for the company as an office administrator, which is nice since my commute consists of getting in an elevator and going down two floors. I know, it's rough...

Richard has been doing really well with selling but a few weeks ago, he decided that he would apply for a job as a San Jose police officer! I obviously didn't approve at first but

after I heard how much he'd be getting paid and about the 90% retirement income and the benefits for life, I was all for it! I actually talked with the retired assistant to the chief of police who calmed all my fears and actually helped me realize what a good job it would be. So Richard went and took the written test, the physical agility test, and the oral interview test and passed all three! So next week, he'll start the background investigation and that's pretty much it! So we might be moving back here for good in January! It's kind of crazy to think that this is where we could be raising a family...but I don't mind, the beach is only a half hour away!

Here comes the bride.....straight to the emergency room

The day finally arrived...the best day of my life. At least that's how it started out. On May 10, 2008, I married the love of my life in the Oakland, CA LDS temple and we were sealed for all time and eternity. (I know, scary) The morning started out hectic with all the girls trying to get ready in the same hotel room. But it made for good pictures!

Meanwhile, Richard and I headed to the temple....an hour late (of course my fault...but I had to look perfect right!?) After the quick but beautiful ceremony and some more primping, Richard and I finally got to make our grand entrance as Mr. and Mrs. Campbell!

We got some great pictures at the temple, even though everyone was complaining about how hot they were...

After the temple, we had tons of time before the reception. So we had to make a pit stop...guess where?!

When we got to the reception, the boys immediately took off to play football while the girls primped some more....and took some more pictures...

Finally the reception began. We had a ring ceremony which was nice for all the friends and family that weren't able to see the temple ceremony. Then the dancing began! I did a dance for Richard with my bridesmaids as my backup dancers. It turned out really good! Thanks girls!
We then did our first dance, the father/daughter dance, and some fun dances...and then....
I got so sick! Just my luck...right when the dj announced that we were going to cut our cake, I got nauseous and ran into the bathroom. That's where I spent the rest of my reception! I layed on the floor with my new hubby by my side the entire time! Finally, when I found enough strength, we went out to cut our cake...(I had to really focus on smiling so that I wouldn't dry heave from the smell of cake)...and throw the bouquet and garter. I was so out of it at this point, I didn't care that the back of my dress was wide open...oh well...I'm the bride...and nothing was going to ruin my day! Richard and I quickly took off to the hotel for the night to try and relax. But that was too much to ask for. I was sick the whole rest of the night. It actually got so bad, that my mom showed up and took me to the emergency room! Everyone said I looked like a drunk bride...nice. I was in the hospital until 8:00 am the next morning....two hours after our honeymoon flight took off... Luckily we made it to Cancun a couple of days later....it was a MUCH needed vacation!
